Placement Tests
All new credit students who are seeking a degree/certificate must take placement tests in Reading, Writing, and Math, before being allowed to register. Since Lane does not use SAT/ACT scores, the placement testing is the method we use to determine your skills so you begin with the right class levels for your success in college.
To register to take your placement tests, from Lane's home page, click on "Steps to Enroll in Credit Classes" in the Student Announcements box, and click on "Schedule your Placement Testing."
It is a good idea to review Math Equations before attempting the test. You can also take a look at our Study Strategy links, good Study Tips, and go by the Tutoring Center for a practice test to make sure you score as high as possible.
There are a few reasons you may not need to take placement tests:
-
If you are not seeking a degree/certificate, but just want to take a class or two. What to do: When you apply, choose "Not seeking a degree, here to take classes" when asked for your degree program.
-
If you have attended a prior college and completed Writing related course work and/or Math (for Math, it must be within the last year). What to do: Show an unofficial copy of your prior college transcript to the Testing Office.
-
If you are admitted only as a non-credit student.
